Sunday Scoop 2/21

It's Sunday Scoop time with Teaching Trio!
My class is have a great time with our unit on fractions. First of all, the kids entered fourth grade with a good understanding...thank you third grade teachers! We incorporate the Rational Number Project in our lessons and they love working on the activities. This week I will use my most recent TPT product as we work on comparing fractional models and numerical fractions.
We won't get to adding and subtracting for a few weeks, but I am ready with new task cards. You're probably thinking there are tons of task cards out there for adding and subtracting fractions...and you are right! In fact, I have purchased several sets.

This set is designed so that you can mix and match cards tailored for your classroom. When I use task cards with the whole class, I set out the cards (more cards than students) all around the room allowing students to move at their own pace. I can use each set as is or mix and match depending on what we are working on.
Now, I'm off to make cookies for my newest driver. Be sure to check out Teaching Trio!  Have a great week.

Presidents' Day

Those Rebels, John and Tom by Barbara Kerley is a fun read aloud that chronicles the lives and friendship of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. The text is perfect for using a venn diagram to compare/contrast the two famous presidents.
This is a copy of what we worked on as a class last year. Other topics for discussion surrounding the book include friendship and teamwork.

Also in the plans for this week students will create a bar graph using birth months of all the presidents.
This bundle includes the graphing activities along with a map review. A sheet for morning work or homework includes fact/opinion, commas, and capital letters.
Have a great week!

Sunday Scoop

I'm linking up with Teaching Trio for the Sunday Scoop. I guess it's the Monday Scoop due to computer issues.
We woke up to this...
Since it is still snowing some of my to do list is in question! I definitely have to complete college forms...
1998
Oh how quickly time flies.
The closer we get to graduation...the more sentimental I become!

My weekly plans are up in the air, but we will definitely make bar graphs! I incorporate graphing activities throughout the year. For Presidents' Day, we will use birthday data to make bar graphs. Everything you need is right here including warm-up activities, data, tally sheets, answer key, and templates for a bar graph or pictograph.

Enjoy the holiday!

Fractions

This week we began working on fractions. The start of a new unit is always so exciting...for the kids and for me! We are incorporating the Rational Number Project, and my class loves making discoveries about fractions as they work through the lessons.

This week we will focus on comparing using models and numerical fractions. Here are a few things that I will be using...
Station cards can be used for a game of scoot or in math centers. I've included a partner activity that I will be using with remediation groups.
You can find all of the activities here...
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!

Sunday Scoop

I'm linking up with Teaching Trio for the Sunday Scoop.
Wow! I have a lot to do. I stayed busy all weekend...mostly playing chauffeur for my boys. I'm trying not to panic about the week ahead. Thankfully, I have my math lessons ready to go. We are starting fractions, and I'll incorporate by newest addition to my TPT store...Fraction Fun. Now I'm off to clean up before Grandma and Grandpa arrive! Remember to check out the Sunday Scoop at Teaching Trio.

I hope you have a fun evening, and a great week!

Valentine's Day for Fourth Grade

This week I will be combining Valentine's Day fun with a math review. We have worked on properties of addition and multiplication so I incorporated the concepts into a Valentine's Day Activity. Students will decorate hearts showing examples of the properties and fact families.

I will use this for early finishers...
And pass out a Homework Pass during our Valentine exchange...
You can find everything you need for an easy celebration!
On another day we will review rounding decimals...
And equalities with this FREEBIE...Happy Valentine's Day!
I will be sharing this rounding to the nearest hundred activity with my teacher friends who teach younger grades. Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day like an activity that they do not have to prepare!
I hope that you can use some of these activities with your students. Happy Valentine's Day!!!

February Currently

I'm linking up with Farley. This is a first for me...thanks to my new Blog!
With a family of seven, let’s just say the sound of the dryer is a constant in our house.
Blizzard 2016
Loved being snowed in with my family!

Thinking I have so much to do…because I was home for 11 days.

Wanting just a few more hours in the day…because I have so much to do!

It was a shock to get everyone out the door this morning, but the two hour delay was a huge help!

Happy February!
